WHAT IS AN ANIMODULE?
Animodule® is the registered trademark of an innovative public art form and movement that is changing the way art and creative expression connects to community, business, and youth. They are instruments of community formation and encourage pride, ownership and stewardship of public space.
The Animodule is a three dimensional “Animated” “Module” sculpture, formed by notching two flat planes together, to create a third dimension. It is an original urban art form born in Newark, New Jersey, created by children and youth under the direction of professional artists.

The Animodule Making Project
The Animodule Making Project will bring an artist in residence and all necessary materials including the Animodule form, paint, brushes, aprons and tarps to your location. Following our Animodule curriculum, the artist in residence will lead students in an artistic exploration of their values, beliefs and aspirations in order to create an artwork that faithfully reflects the community that created it. Named by former Newark Mayor and current US Senator Cory Booker as “Newark’s Official Peace Ambassadors”, Animodules promote the civic ideals of diversity, social justice and pride of place.

The Animodule Curriculum is an interdisciplinary arts program including research, visual arts, language arts, and mathematics as students work together to create something larger than themselves, and build an enduring art piece that represents their community.
This program brings together local artists who have the opportunity to share their vision, passion and expertise, with youth, who work collaboratively to produce impressive artwork. The Animodule Curriculum is in relation to and in support of age and grade appropriate nj core curriculum content standards for the arts. To date over 70 Animodules have been created in schools and community organizations.
